Nov 20: 30th Anniversary Cucalorus Festival
Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Cucalorus, one of the largest film festivals in the South. Recognized as one of the “Coolest Film Festivals in the World,” this non-competitive event showcases films, theater performances, and entrepreneurship-focused panels. With over 22,000 attendees, the festival features movies, live performances, and workshops across multiple downtown Wilmington venues. Cucalorus is known for its riverside setting and laid-back atmosphere, making it a must-attend event for filmmakers and art lovers alike. Event times vary, and tickets will be available closer to the event.
Nov 22: Cape Fear Festival of Trees
Experience the Cape Fear Festival of Trees at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This enchanting holiday event transforms the aquarium into a winter wonderland, featuring Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and artists. Wander through the beautifully adorned trees while enjoying the aquarium’s exhibits. This event, included with aquarium admission, offers a festive and unique holiday experience for the whole family. Running daily through December 30, it’s a perfect way to kick off the holiday season.
Nov 29: Enchanted Airlie
Walk through Airlie Gardens amidst millions of twinkling Christmas lights, festive flowers, and live entertainment. Enchanted Airlie, a Wilmington tradition, offers a magical holiday experience for visitors of all ages. Tickets for this popular event must be purchased in advance, as they often sell out quickly. Evening time slots begin at 5:30pm, and visitors are encouraged to enjoy snacks and beverages available on-site. Carload and XL van ticket options are available, making it an ideal family outing. Tickets go on sale October 23.
Nov 30: NC Holiday Flotilla at Wrightsville Beach
Join in on the holiday festivities with the NC Holiday Flotilla, a tradition since 1983. The event kicks off with a Friday tree lighting, followed by a full day of fun on Saturday with a Festival in the Park. Attendees can explore over 100 arts and crafts vendors, enjoy an antique car show, and experience the boat parade on the Intracoastal Waterway at 6pm, followed by a fireworks display. Spectators are encouraged to vote for their favorite boats in this illuminated holiday spectacle.
Dec 31: Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration
Ring in 2025 at the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. This free, family-friendly event features a DJ, dancing, and refreshments, culminating in the iconic beach ball drop at midnight. Following the drop, a spectacular fireworks show lights up the night sky. This tradition alternates between Carolina Beach and Kure Beach each year, offering a lively way to welcome the new year along the coast. Festivities begin at 9pm.
